We are hosting our second women's only evening on Wednesday 3rd July at 6:00 - 8:00pm.
Following on from our very successful first meeting, the next meeting will be dedicated to "Naming HIV" the three main topics for discussion will be telling your children you are living with HIV, telling your children they are living with HIV and telling to new partners you are living with HIV.
We have invited Silvia Petretti and Angelina Namiba from Positively UK to facilitate the meeting,
Silvia Petretti is an HIV positive woman and advocate for the rights of people living with HIV. She was diagnosed in 1997. Since 2005 she has been openly living with HIV, because she believes that it is a powerful tool to challenge the stigma and prejudices directed towards women living with HIV. Silvia is coordinator of Poz-Fem UK, the British national network of women living with HIV, which she co-founded in 2004. Silvia has been working with Positively UK for 13 years and is now leading the organisation as Deputy CEO. Her role focuses on enabling the community of people living with HIV in the UK to be involved in decisions that affect them and influence policy. Silvia has represented the Global Network of People Living with HIV at the United Nation High Level Meeting on HIV and AIDS in 2011 and has also given evidence to the House of Lords for the report: HIV No Vaccine No Cure. Silvia also writes a blog about HIV and activism: Speaking Up!
Originally from Kenya, Angelina has over 13 years’ experience of working in the HIV sector. She has worked on initiatives ranging from providing one-to-one support to people living with HIV; managing service provision to facilitating, promoting and advocating for the involvement of women living with HIV in forming and informing local and national strategy and policy.
Angelina co-authored the report Primary Care Access: how General Practice can better respond to the needs of people living with HIV http://issuu.com/positively_uk/docs/pcap_report_final_version/1.
As a woman living with HIV for more than a decade, Angelina is passionate about advocating for the sexual health and reproductive rights of women living with HIV. From 2010 – 2011 she led on the planning, development and delivery of the pilot project From Pregnancy to Baby and Beyond with Positively UK http://www.positivelyuk.org/pregnancy_and_beyond.php. This developed a sustainable model of education, information, emotional and practical support, for women living with HIV through ante to post natal care.
Angelina has extensive experience of training, speaking and presenting on different aspects of HIV and has presented at numerous local, national and international conferences.
This meeting is open to all positive women across London regardless of which clinic you attend.
The meeting will take place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Refreshments provided.
